They give me butterflies..

I used to be a bit scared of butterflies. There i said it. This is one of the most embarrassing facts of my life... I can actually be blackmailed with this.!  I know butterflies are usually referred to as fragile and beautiful (only the colored ones) creatures but i used to be hell scared of the big black colored butterflies which always darted towards me. I am more or less over this "phobia" now but i still don't like to be in the same room with a butterfly! I'm okay with spiders, lizards, cockroaches(not when they fly towards me),rats, snakes and all the pesky creatures people are usually scared of. But somehow i cant seem to make peace with the (err..) butterflies.  In Bengali there's this joke that if a butterfly sits on you,you might get married soon. I don't know how that is possible but whenever a butterfly landed on me, i went hyper and ran here and there and hid myself somewhere,my dadi and mummy joked that maybe it means I'll get married so...

Bloody neighbours.!!

There was a slum at the back of my house where the adi Ganga flows, the people living there were more or less harmless, though their children used to sneak in sometimes to steal bael (stone apple) and other fruits from my garden, but overall they were quite harmless... Now for the construction of the metro track these people where asked to vacate that area and allocated some other area...  For about two years that area had remained empty and the bank of the Adi Ganga looked really beautiful from our window, till one evening we heard some strange noises and then we noticed some men with bamboo sticks making tent like structures and overnight they made tent like houses..By the next few days we found people carrying rolls of bedding and other possessions with them like pots, cooking supplies and including a child or two clinging on to them..Then after a month they installed dish TV in their homes...! Anyway these people are now happily residing behind our house and have made the...

Weddingzzzzz!!

There was this contest in Indiblogger recently titled love marriage vs arranged marriage and though I hate writing for a contest or something, I began writing a post on love marriage and arranged marriages... But then I just couldn't bring myself to publish that(I mean writing for some contest is so not me..!!) and that's why I deleted it... Anyway while writing for that contest i was reminded of some really funny old memories of the marriages i attended when i was small... I remember when my two uncles got married consecutively i was about 5 or 6 yrs old.Now my two uncles(who got married consecutively on the same month) are cousin brothers but so close to each other that they supposedly have done everything together so they got married in the same month maybe in a week or two's gap..!.. This the only marriage which I kinda remember the earlier ones that I had been to have always been the ones where I went sleeping with my head on my mothers lap(nearly ruining her bena...

Cause i am HIGH VOLTAGE..!

I loved the IIT entrance exam(all credit to PHYSICS,the love of my life..)..! But it was seriously mind blowing..!I know I gave it for fun (..and i hate engineering)and maybe i wont even clear the cut off marks and that i might score negative marks in chem, but i seriously loved it... Ju sometimes tells me that i should actually be an engineer not a doctor(maybe because i am an expert at breaking stuff and then repairing them..Radio ho ya cell phone ipad ho ya TV sab electronic gadgets ki samasyayo ka samadhan sirf high voltage Sonia k paas hai..!!!!*conditions apply*!!).. My sissy is an electrical engineer and so is my dad who is a hardcore IITian..Well actually except me everyone in my family is an engineer..But i seriously HATE engineering..Sometimes i get tired of hearing about wires and cables and circuits at home and try and relate them with the working of the different parts of the human body and everyone ends up laughing..!! Anyway just to update you people with my present ...

Today one of my friend's mother has successfully undergone a critical operation and I had been speaking to my her throughout the day telling her to be calm as she was really disturbed..She kept saying that "i have never seen mum like this, she looked so pale and weak lying in that hospital bed.." And suddenly all the memories came flooding back..I remembered how i felt the same when dadi(my grandmother) was in the ICU for more than 8 months..And how i spent most of my time last year running from school to tuitions and then to the hospital with the same tension everyday..But more than tension i felt helpless.. She told me how the doctor had not said anything except that the operation is an extremely critical one and I remembered how we heard the "she is critical" phrase for 8 long months..I remembered how i prayed so hard so that she recovers....Because there was nothing else i could do..but even after months of struggle and so many nights spent praying we lost......

For the smiles and tears

Sometimes it's actually important to just let go of things specially if they hurt you immensely... People change and you have to accept it that way..Anyway I patched up with my sister after a 2 month long fight it's the longest we have gone without speaking...But I guess this was really necessary because we both were getting way too dependent on each other..But in those 2 months I realized how weak I am without her..I tried hard not to talk about this in front of Riko(my best friend) so that I don't end up crying but whenever I told her(Riko) about it I mostly did.. And that's why I took the first step (unlike my usual egoistic self) and cleared the air between us(though it was her fault!).. But I am glad things are better now, atleast something is normal in my life now..!After 2 months of silence now we finally can talk normally..I realized that things change with time and if you love someone truly you'll accept that person with that change.. I also realized some...
I am a proud sister today my sister got through in one of the best colleges in India plus a dream job in one of the best core companies..I am so happy for her,so happy that tears roll down my eyes when I see her today and remember one day many years back when I was really small and I had got a scolding for some reason and I had gone to her and told her that "Ju maybe I wont be able to do anything in life but you study hard you have to make mummy and Babi(thats what I call my dad) proud "!!And she doesn't know how very proud I am..I almost feel as if I have got through that college!! Even now whether I make it big in life or not I really really want her to get all the happiness in the world and even more.. Ju has always been like a little sister for me though she is 5 years elder to me I have always treated her like a child infact mum tells me I worry about ju much much much more than she does..Even though I know she can handle herself but still I just can't let her b...
It is so hard responding to calls from relatives when they ask when and how and what time this happened I just know that it happened..And she is no more and She's not coming back I remember the last time dadi and I went out together she came in through this door holding my hand and yesterday I saw her maybe for the last time in my life being taken through the same door..Every time we sat together in her room chatting and I sat at the end of the bed or at the arm rest of the chair she used to tell me a thousand times till I got up from there "jijo pore jabi okhan theke uthe por"(jijo u'll fall down from there, get up)..And I used to tell her "ami porbo na dadi, tumi chinta korona"(u don't worry dadi I won't fall down") But now I feel as if I've falling apart I can never get used to the fact that I will never get to see dada and dadi again...I feel as if I have lost the two closest friends that I had somewhere from where they will never retur...

Albert Einstein most profoundly said "How strange is the lot of us mortals! Each of us is here for a brief sojourn; for what purpose we know not, though sometimes sense it. But we know from daily life that we exist for other people, first of all for whose smiles and well- being our own happiness depends." .. This quote quote has always made me reflective on my life and the people for whom I exist.... Life does seems worth living when I see a smile on the face of my mother ...Sometimes when we are distressed and in a pensive mood a reassuring smile does make us feel light..And sometimes there are people in your life who are really affected by your grief and they help you overcome it or stand by you during that difficult time..They maybe your parents,or your grand parents, your friends, maybe your sibling,or the person you love..Those people are really special, not because they love you but because you are a significant part of there lives..They are not only there in times of ...

Shadows of Time

Life is strange.... I never anticipated even in my wildest dreams that I would be able to attain the marks as to get Science but i surprisingly did...I was always one of the no-nuisance day dreamers in school, known in class for my strong opinions.I was never really serious about life,I was actually never serious about anything..But gradually my whole perspective about life changed,in every way possible...I used to be really impulsive and emotional as a child..But some circumstances in life change the very existence of your life..I always used to be my grandpa's little girl.I called him Dada and he called me Ma..... I remember holding his strong hand tightly with my little fingers while crossing the road and stopping near the sweet shop which was his favourite spot..Though he was advised by the doctor to have not more than one sweet a day whenever i returned from school i used to see him secretly gorging on Rasgullas..I can never forget those endless walks to the library with him an...

Ju.......my little sweet sister who prefers to avoid sad movies or songs because it makes her sad and likes her clothes to be scattered around the room because it's easier to find them that way,who sits and cries seeing some other person in pain who loves churni(one of our 6 baby dogs or rather one of our 6 babies cause she doesn't consider them as dogs) more than me..she's one person who will shout at you for no reason and then make silly faces and act like a kid to make you laugh and make cards with smiley faces saying sorry...i can write a book on her but I'd rather utilize this space to write about the lovely relationship that we share...Every alternate day no matter how busy we are and what exam we have it is compulsory to have those never ending chit chat sessions, and our short walks to the long distance phuchka shop, and our memorable fight where I acted as if i'll hit her with the chair and she faked as if she'll hit me with the table and when we wer...
